Musée de Montmartre

Where Renoir painted and Utrillo grew up

Pink cottage facade of the Musée de Montmartre with rose gardens

Tucked into the oldest house in Montmartre, the museum tells the story of a village that quietly became the centre of modern art. The gardens behind it are where Auguste Renoir set up his easel to paint Le Bal du Moulin de la Galette.

A little history

Built in the 17th century, the manor later became studios and lodgings for Renoir, Suzanne Valadon and Maurice Utrillo. Valadon's restored atelier is one of the few artist studios in Paris preserved almost exactly as it was left.
